Our library is located on our premises, 9A Kirk Street, Grey Lynn.

Opening times:

Monday to Thursday: 10.00am to 6.00pm

Friday: 10.00am to 4.00pm

Saturday: 10.00am to 12.00pm

BOOKS

The Alliance Française d’Auckland offers a library with more than 9,500 books. It includes books for children (bibliothèque rose et verte for example), comics, French novels (Balzac, Victor Hugo, Maupassant and many others as well as contemporary authors…), books on philosophy, arts, poetry, Paris and history. You can borrow three book at a time,  one month.

MAGAZINES

We also have French magazines such as Femme Actuelle, Paris Match, Géo, Première, l’Express, le Point, Sciences et Vie…

MOVIES

The Alliance Française d’Auckland has videos and about 500 DVDs, most of them with English subtitles. These include videos for children, some comedies (Le père Noel est une ordure, Les bronzés font du ski, Le Placard, Après vous, Les Visiteurs, …), dramas, documentaries….
These can be borrowed for one week.

All these resources are available free of charge, provided you become a member of our Alliance.

WRITERS’BIRTHDAYS

Each month, the librarian paints a picture of a famous French writer as well as a selection of their books available at the Library.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

 

The Library offers to the members the opportunity to discover French classic or contemporary novels. Among the previous selections : La Goutte d’Or by Michel Tournier, Nadja by André Breton, Colline by Jean Gino and Raga by Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio.

BOOK CLUB

The last Wednesday of each month, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, the Librarian welcomes you for a discussion in French about a novel. The books are chosen either by the Librarian or by the members or functions of the curent cultural events at the Alliance. The Book Club is free! Register now: library@alliance-francaise.co.nz

A comedy with Louis de Funes not to be missed – “La reine soleil”: Set in ancient Egypt during the 18th Dynasty, follows Akhesa, a ravishing 14 year old princess, who doesn’t have the slightest notion that she will one day rule Egypt…..
